Robert Plant performed with Mumford & Sons at the UK Americana Awards

Robert Plant performed at the UK Americana Awards at the Hackney Empire in London on February 1, where he was joined on stage by Mumford & Sons for a performance of “Gallows Pole.”

Plant also performed “Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down” with his band and participated in an ensemble performance of “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty. Watch full videos of the performances below.

Plant was given a lifetime achievement award by the UK Americana Music Association, which was presented to him by radio host Bob Harris.

After that, Harris surprised Plant by announcing that Plant had won the award for the highest-selling Americana album in the UK for 2017 for his latest solo album “Carry Fire.” It was presented to Plant by the managing director of The Official Charts Company Martin Talbot and Wolverhampton Wanders and England football player Steve Bull.

Justin Adams from Plant’s band gave a speech, and while the band prepared for their performance, a video message was shown. (We couldn’t figure out who the message was from — so please let us know in the comments if you know.)

Earlier in the evening actor Sir Patrick Stewart and his wife Sunny Ozell presented an award, and the pair were in the front row for Plant’s performance.

Americana Music Association UK CEO Stevie Freeman released this statement in November about the decision to give the award to Plant:

“We are so excited to announce that Robert Plant will be accepting our Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. The award is our highest honour and it couldn’t be going to a more deserving recipient. Over the course of a legendary career, from his early love of blues and rock’n’roll, through the 70s with rock pioneers Led Zeppelin, to a solo career that has never stood still, Robert Plant has introduced countless millions of music lovers to American roots music.

In 2007 he released the iconic Raising Sand album with bluegrass star Alison Krauss, creating new fusions in the Americana world and garnering six Grammys along the way. His latest album, Carry Fire, continues to combine elements of American roots and blues with folk styles from the UK and beyond.”
