Robert Plant and Alison Krauss cancelled a performance in Belgium on July 8 at the last minute after Krauss contracted a flu virus.

The pair were scheduled to perform at Cactusfestival in Bruges, Belgium on July 8 but reportedly pulled out of the show only minutes beforehand, according to a Facebook post by The Lemon Tree Fanzine.

There has been no announcement on whether Plant and Krauss may attempt to return to Belgium or whether fans will be given a refund. The performance was part of a music festival, making it more difficult to reschedule it.

“Unfortunately, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss have to cancel their concert last-minute due to illness,” the music festival announced on its website and also on screens at the festival itself. “Read a full official statement of the management,” it continued.

“It is with deep regret that we have to cancel tonight’s performance,” the statement reportedly from Plant and Krauss’ management said. “Unfortunately Alison Krauss has been hit by a flu virus which has affected her vocal chords and therefore is unable to sing. She has been examined by a medical Doctor and has tested negative twice for Covid. Alison, Robert and the band are extremely disappointed they cannot perform for you all tonight…”

The statement was posted on the festival’s Facebook page at 9.36pm local time in Belgium, shortly before Plant and Krauss were due to take to the stage at 9.50pm.

The festival posted a separate statement in a comment on Facebook saying “possible scenarios are being investigated”.

“Dear festival visitor, we understand your disappointment, discontent … Yesterday we and the band were unexpectedly confronted with the impossibility of the band to perform,” the comment read. “Therefore, we cannot yet answer your questions. We are currently in contact with the band and possible scenarios are being investigated. We will keep you further informed. Together with the band, we deeply regret this situation of force majeure, but hope, together with you, to still have a good time at the festival.”

Currently, Plant and Krauss are due to continue their world tour on July 10 when they’re scheduled to perform at the Royal Park Live festival in Baarn, Netherlands.

The cancellation of the July 8 show is the second date on Plant and Krauss’ current world tour to be hit with issues. Plant and Krauss were forced to end their June 16 performance in Atlanta, Georgia after only four songs due to severe weather. The show was rescheduled to September 6.
