Robert Plant made a surprise appearance on January 25 with a new band called “Saving Grace.”

The band their debut at the SpArC Theatre in Shropshire, and includes Plant on lead vocals and harmonica, Suzi Dian on vocals, Tony Kelsey playing the mandolin, baritone and acoustic guitars, Matt Worley playing the banjo, acoustic and baritone guitars and cuatro and Oli Jefferson on percussion.

No videos of the band’s surprise performance have been posted online, but the band’s music was described in a Facebook post by the venue as “music inspired by the dreamscape of the Welsh Marches” and “from a whisper to a scream.”

Plant and his new band are scheduled to support Fairport Convention on February 14, 16 and 22 on their winter tour.

This band appears to be a side-project for Plant, rather than a replacement for his current touring and recording band, The Sensational Space Shifters.

See the photos of the surprise performance below:

This wasn’t the first time that Plant had played with guitarist Kelsey, though. He previously played with him at a surprise charity show alongside Steve Winwood in 2014:

Good For Robert. Jimmy Could Seal The Limelight By Collaborating w/PJ Harvey On A Disc. They Are Both Dark Horse Brits: A Perfect Match. I Left A Message w/Pagey’s Daughter About This. I Bet What JP Doesn’t Know About PJ, Scarlet Could Tell Him! They Both Love Guitars, Listening To Records & Studio Wizardry. PJ Gives Him THE VOICE, The Lyrics & A Distinctive Guitar Style. CAN ANYONE HELP BRING THESE TWO KINDRED SPIRITS TOGETHER? Sean X

  10. Looks, sounds good. Presumably this is Plant’s interim musical vehicle as Skin Tyson has ‘Cast’ touring responsibilities from April onwards.
