Sony forces takedown of ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ trailer

Becoming Led Zeppelin

Sony Pictures Classics has used a copyright claim to force the removal of the new trailer for “Becoming Led Zeppelin” which emerged online on November 2.

The new trailer has been shown in US cinemas sinces October 24 but hasn’t yet been officially released online. A fan filmed the trailer in a cinema and posted it on YouTube on November 2.

Sony Pictures Classics, the film’s US distributor, has now used a copyright claim to force the video to be removed from YouTube, preventing fans from seeing it.

Anyone who tries to watch the video is now shown the message: “This video contains content from Sony Pictures Movies & Shows, who has blocked it on copyright grounds”.

LedZepNews published a definitive analysis of the leaked trailer here with the help of LedZepFilm, including explanations of the previously unseen footage of Led Zeppelin which could be seen in it.

We also found that the audio of John Bonham heard in the trailer was misleadingly edited together using multiple clips from a 1972 radio interview, including two clips in which he was actually talking about The Beatles.

We have published a full transcript of the original 1972 interview here to allow fans to understand how Bonham’s quotes in the trailer were edited.

The deletion of the leaked trailer follows an accidental release of a promotional poster for the film which LedZepNews exclusively published here.

No release date has been confirmed for the film beyond a broad 2025 release window mentioned in the leaked trailer. However, we’ve seen evidence that the film may be released in May.

  1. At this point, Sony should cut their losses. Zep fans have seen, known, posited, digested, and regurgitated all things Zep for many years. It’s the age of the internet ! Does this professional packaging actually warrant a theatre debut? Will theatres allow the dense fog of weed burning in the audience?
Seriously. Other than the sound quality (which has probably been enhanced via poetic liscence), we already know that it is a PG rated tale of a scrubbed down journey through a late 1960s mafia ruled rock and roll development. A story that SHOULD NOT END at the rise and flight of this powerful machine. We don’t need so much to know how Batman became Batman or how any hero started out. We need the journey in FULL.
