Exclusive: ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ will be released on IMAX screens on February 7

Becoming Led Zeppelin

“Becoming Led Zeppelin”, the feature-length documentary about the origins of Led Zeppelin, will be released on IMAX screens in the US and Canada on February 7, 2025, LedZepNews has exclusively learned.

LedZepNews has found a listing for the film at the IMAX theatre at the Indiana State Museum which clearly states a February 7 release date.

The listing describes the film as “Becoming Led Zeppelin: The IMAX Experience”, suggesting this is part of a partnership with IMAX designed to make use of the company’s larger screens and advanced sound systems.

Last week, LedZepNews discovered a leaked poster for the film which urges fans to “experience it in IMAX”, adding credibility to the idea the film will release exclusively on IMAX screens first.

LedZepNews is aware of two recent pre-release screenings of the film: One held this week in Toronto on an IMAX screen and another held last week in Nashville, also on an IMAX screen.

Another screening of the film took place at IMAX’s headquarters in Los Angeles on October 24. Invites to the event were issued by IMAX’s head of events Jason Geffen, indicating an exclusive partnership between IMAX and the “Becoming Led Zeppelin” filmmakers.

No release date for the film has been officially confirmed so far. A trailer for the film which began showing in US cinemas on October 24 simply listed a 2025 release date.

LedZepNews previously found signs online indicating a May 16 release for the film, however this may instead be a wider, non-IMAX release or the release in Europe specifically.

The emergence of a February 7 release date fits with comments made by artist Ioannis in an interview with Misplaced Straws published on November 15 in which he claims the film’s release was delayed as the filmmakers sought a high-end cinema experience for the documentary.

“When it became available, they refused to allow it to go to streaming,” he claimed. “They would only do a deal If a company only put it out in film theaters. So that’s why there was a delay.”

“Sony Pictures Classics took it over. It’s only going to play an IMAX theater with a qudrophonic sound system,” he added. “It’s a pretty smart move by them, because what they’re feeling is we want you to see it and want you to experience what it was like, and you cannot experience what it was like unless you have the sound of what we were like, to be able to see it. So, it’s coming out late February. You’re probably going to start seeing trailers flooding right around Thanksgiving.”

Ioannis’ claim that the film’s new trailer will be released around Thanksgiving is also credible. The trailer began showing in US cinemas on October 24 but hasn’t been officially released online. Earlier this week, Sony Pictures Classics used a copyright strike to remove a fan-filmed version of the trailer that emerged on YouTube on November 2.
