“Becoming Led Zeppelin” brought in $2.6 million from its IMAX exclusive opening weekend in the US, according to reports in Deadline and Variety.
The film opened in early access screenings on February 5 and has been shown on 369 IMAX screenings in the US and Canada this week. Next week, the film is set to open on more than 1,000 screens.
Box Office Mojo shows the film’s exact gross takings for its opening weekend was $2,626,947. The same site previously showed that “Becoming Led Zeppelin” brought in $1.3 million on its opening day of February 7.
“Becoming Led Zeppelin” was the seventh highest grossing film in the US in its opening weekend, according to Deadline and Metacritic.
The film’s opening day performance is “the highest grossing post pandemic opening day for any documentary playing in limited release (less than 1k theaters). The highest since ‘Bring the Soul: The Movie’,” according to the Global Box Office Twitter account.
It would gross even more if local theaters aired it. I had to drive 2 hours to find an AMC that played it.
It wasn’t ‘ LOUD ENOUGH ‘… but other than that …hearing their personal stories was enlightening and touching … they’re witty fellas … and especially hearing Bonzo talk, was a thrill to hear his character… the rare pics of him and wife Pat… a gorgeous girl. Plant had some nice words that were charming … and some odd pics of them youthful. The documentary gets really really exciting when they sign with ATLANTIC RECORDS AND TAPES, and the footage of their American Touring and at Bath Festival were highlights… but the music was good and could have been louder … wink- wink … I LOVED IT ALL and plan to see it and buy it …!!
Loved the movie, especially the second half. One major complaint: the music should have been louder. We’re Zep fans!! The bass on Whole Lotta Love should have vibrated through our bodies with the sound systems that the theaters were bragging about.
It was AWESOME!
My wife wasn’t interested in going to a movie, but I told her it’s a “date night”
And she accepted.
And she had a perma grin!
Definitely worth the price of admission. Highly suggest the IMAX viewing. The sound was stellar.
One cowbell out of time was placed, I’m assuming to catch anybody bootlegging it later.
But 2 unreleased tracks as the credits rolled! Wait for the end!!! Zeppelin doing Something Else, and C’mon Everybody by Eddie Cochran was the icing. My dad bought Eddie Cochran his Gretsch, when he played lead guitar for my dad Forrest Lee in 1954-1955. So that was even more emotional for me personally.
I saw it in IMAX theater, agree with Y’all, not really loud. Saw it in non Imax older theater and it was much louder. Loved it even more 2nd time.
My wife and I saw Zeppelin in Perth in Western Australia in 1972.I was 21. Besides the 1966 Dylan concert here, backed by the Hawks ( Later the Band) Zeppelin was magnificent. Ending with “Whole Lotta Love”.
Night before the concert Zeppelin were raided at their Hotel (The White Sands) at Scarborough Beach, by the Perth drug squad. Nothing was found.
