John Bonham’s hometown of Redditch has spent a full year attempting to reschedule a tribute to him after a 2025 event was cancelled at the last minute.
The launch of an immersive animation honouring Bonham along with a celebration of his life and career was due to take place on March 14, 2025 but was cancelled two days before it was due to take place.
Now, a full year after the event was scheduled to be held, a spokesperson for Redditch Borough Council told LedZepNews this week that “this event remains a priority for our teams. We are still actively engaging with our external stakeholders and will announce next steps as soon as we can”.
The cancelled event would have launched a new immersive animation of Bonham that was created using motion capture to film a drummer performing some of Bonham’s most iconic performances.
The completed animation was never launched and a web page for it has read “check back soon” since last year.

At the time of the event’s cancellation last year, Redditch Borough Council said that “we plan to reschedule it sooner rather than later and so that the current works taking place in the town centre will be completed.”
It remains unclear how much money was spent by Redditch Borough Council on the animation and the delayed tribute to Bonham.
Redditch Borough Council refused to disclose even a single document or email relating to the project in response to a Freedom of Information request filed last year by LedZepNews.
Following a request made by LedZepNews for an internal review of its decision not to disclose any material, the council said that “because the event in question did not go ahead, the details stay confidential, and are not published.”
