The new trailer for the upcoming feature-length documentary film “Becoming Led Zeppelin” was posted on YouTube on November 2 after a fan filmed it in a cinema and shared it online.
The trailer gives fans a first look at the new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones who spoke to the filmmakers about the origins of Led Zeppelin.
This new trailer has been shown in cinemas since October 24. It doesn’t give a precise release date for the film beyond announcing that the film will be released in 2025. LedZepNews previously reported that it appears likely the film will be released on May 16.
The trailer directs fans to the website becomingledzeppelinfilm.com, which currently redirects to the film’s page on the Sony Pictures Classics website.
This newly emerged trailer shows previously unseen footage including what appears to be video of Led Zeppelin’s performance at the Atlanta Pop Festival on July 5, 1969 and late 1968 home footage of John Bonham with his family.
What’s not included in the trailer is any footage of Led Zeppelin performing at Bath Festival on June 28, 1970. LedZepNews reported earlier this year that Peter Whitehead’s footage of this performance has been added into the film, possibly including scenes of Page reacting to it.
The trailer claims that the film includes “a never-before-heard interview with John Bonham”. However, this is a misleading statement. The interview heard throughout the film and included in the trailer is a 1972 Australian radio interview with Plant and Bonham that has been widely available for years, including online and through vinyl bootlegs.
The film’s director Bernard MacMahon, previously mentioned hearing this interview on a vinyl bootleg during the September 4, 2021 press conference in Venice for the film’s premiere.
“I came across this bootleg and it was a short interview with John talking,” he said in 2021. “It was on an old vinyl record but I could hear this had been made to a quarter inch tape and the journalist was Australian.”
Last year, LedZepNews obtained previously unseen emails from the filmmakers which reveal the story of how the original tapes for the interview were tracked down so that they can be included in the film.
So I can’t repeat myself to get my point across. One more studio album.
