John Paul Jones will perform with his new band Snoweye at the Varangerfestivalen in Norway on August 11, according to the festival’s website.
The band is made up of Jones, Elle Márjá Eira, and Lucy Parnell. They formed in June 2017 when Jones performed at the Sun Station Vadsø music festival in Norway. Their first public performances were on June 22, 23, and 24. Watch some clips of those performances below:

Here’s how the band is described on the Varangerfestivalen website:
“Elle Márjá Eira, John Paul Jones and Lucy Parnell are all exceptional artists and musicians in their own right, but together as Snoweye they create a beautiful musical landscape. Ethereal, yet soulful. Elusive, yet instinctive. Performing in both Sami and English with yoik and folk inspired melodies, Snoweye draw on their collective inspirations and influences to create a unique sound that uses voice, mandolin, multi-layered guitars, electronics and field recordings. Snoweye’s voices, instrumentation and harmonies blend effortlessly to create wonderfully vibrant and haunting performances.”
There was also some initial local press coverage last year when Snoweye was formed. Jones was interviewed by Norwegian television station NRK about the Sun Station Vadsø music festival and Snoweye, and was also filmed rehearsing with the band.
And Jones and Eira gave an interview to a Norwegian publication — but it’s behind a paywall and in Norwegian.
Love seeing this and hearing the band performing. I live by the creed that their is only one song, and when anyone reaches up and out and taps in to it, good music springs forth. Love this!
