“Becoming Led Zeppelin”, the upcoming feature-length documentary about the origins of Led Zeppelin, has seemingly been retitled “Led Zeppelin”.
The listing for the film on the website of Altitude Film Sales, the company hired by the filmmakers to sell it to distributors, updated the title this week to remove the word “Becoming” and tweaked its description.
The film premiered on September 4, 2021 but has not yet been released for the public to see. On September 3, the administrator of Led Zeppelin’s official forum said the film is being re-edited.
The new description of the film on Altitude Film Sales’ website reads:
LED ZEPPELIN is a film that no one thought could ever be made. The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was swift and previously undocumented. With unparalleled access to the group and their personal archives, their full support and never-before-seen footage, LED ZEPPELIN will immerse you in the sights and sounds of their early career. This big screen experience is as close as you will get to being there.
LED ZEPPELIN tells the story of four men and their love of music, revealing their individual journeys as they move through the music scene of the 1960s, playing small clubs throughout Britain or performing on some of the biggest hits of the era, until their meeting in the summer of 1968 for a rehearsal that changes their lives forever.
Four journeys merge into one as they set out to conquer America on a rollercoaster ride that culminates in 1970 when they become the number one band in the world.
The page previously had the following description, according to an archived copy of the web page:
BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN is a film that no one thought could ever be made. The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was swift and virtually undocumented. With unparalleled access to the group and their personal archives, their full support and never-before-seen footage, BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN will immerse you in the sights and sounds of their early career. For all the millions of people who will never see the band live, this is as close as you will get to being there.
Before the stairway and the dragon, before the gold and the girls, there were simply four men and their love of music. BECOMING LED ZEPPELIN reveals their individual journeys as they move through the music scene of the 1960’s, playing small clubs throughout Britain and performing on some of the biggest hits of the era, until their meeting in the summer of 1968 for a rehearsal that changes their lives forever. Their four journeys merge into one as they set out to conquer America on a rollercoaster ride that culminates in 1970 when they become the number one band in the world.
The image on the film’s page on the website has also been changed from a still of the band performing on March 18, 1969 to a 1969 photograph of the band taken in Los Angeles by Ron Raffaelli.
Yes never got to see Zep live but have been a huge fan ever since I been old enough to enjoy rock n roll
been a long time since I rock and rolled
Saw Robert and Jimmy play Brisbane amazing Concert 10,000 fans no Paul Jones still once in a lifetime experience Excellent Show , Better than the Beatles Best Band Ever Jack Black SO True Keep Rockin Guys
One more day waiting I’m gonna die
Let’s be realistic, if anyone was interested in this film, it would’ve been distributed and doing the rounds already. I used to get quite excited at the prospect of new material coming out but the way this ‘band’ makes a drama out of the simplest of things, I really couldn’t care less either way now.
Plant isn’t interested and Page will never play again. They’ve been finished since 1980, move on.
why make a film about there early career why not a beatles type anthology but we know if they did that they would after relive the tragdic events between 1975 and 1980 as usual page was the only one plugging it as he as never got over the band splitting up in 1980 and plant and jones didnot seen interested as they have both moved on so we are still waiting to see if its any good and if it was worth all the fuss yeh rest in peace led zeppelin
When is the release date????-it is so sad how the whole Zep fan base has always been deprived of anything new from this band. The hardest thing to endure-with being a Zep fan.Geez- with all this time waiting for its release due to politics, redtape and re-editing-you would hope that the Bath footage will be included ?-hope it comes out before I die
Love them from 1969 to now
More Led Zeppelin nostalgia… ok.
Good, bad, or lame, the music lives on, “ The
Song Remains The Same” 😉
I’m afraid it’s too little too late. Maybe streaming or direct to video, but this is not theater material. As a lifelong fan of Zep, I admit that 50% of the band’s allure was the over the top naughty behavior, big money creating chaos, and the stories of the road. Which is exactly what we won’t see here. Even the Beatles had the dark allure of being Mob Rules Untouchable shortly after their rise to fame. It’s human nature. Shall we pretend that it was all about the music? I find that a difficult proposition.
I’m 61yrs old I saw Led Zeppelin when I was 14yrs old (1975)the best rock band ever to this day ,,,Los Angeles @The Great Forum, San Diego Sports Arena,Day of the Green Oakland Ca, Phoenix Az, London O2 Arena 2007
Everything was groovy in the 70s marijuana, LSD, California, beaches and Led Zeppelin✌️❤️💫
I want this to come out as much as the next person, but man people are hard on the band. Yes, there have been many projects slated to come that never come to light. Does the band really owe anyone anything, no? Quality over quantity, and they have delivered top-notch material. Anything more is just a bonus. Expect nothing and you won’t be disappointed. Now it would be nice to stop being promised what fans really want and then getting more books and reissues instead. From my understanding though, we would have all sorts of live records and other material if it wasn’t for one particular member.
Can’t wait to see this movie. INCREDIBLE BAND!
I think I was 9 with an older sister who had all the cool records in the late 60’s. She turned me onto the magic of Led Zeppelin and at age 62 now, am still just as excited! My Mom would not let me see them in 1977 as I was 16 on a school night. All the cool kids went, I was so sad. I never met her live that down. One of the last things she said to me before her life was taken was “If I knew it was that important to you, I would have let you go. Well she didn’t budge back then. She made up for it in Heaven as I think she pulled some strings to have me meet Jimmy Page in 2009. I worked for a major airline in Cleveland and he flew all the way here to induct his best friend Jeff Beck. I found out he was coming and ran home to get my Untitled album and meet his plane with my son. He graciously signed my album and I am forever grateful!!! I thanked my Mom in Heaven and it really meant so much to me. They are my favorite band of my lifetime. Thank you also to Jason for signing it. Can’t wait to see this movie on the big screen. So much thanks for creating so much magic for a lifetime and beyond.
Rrrr! Now the confusion will set in with the title and any product with their name on it…including and especially the first studio l.p. and the 1990 four c.d. box set. I really wish they would do a better job with this and or that. “Becoming Led Zeppelin” was the title for this film and sounds like it was and will be what would be most appropriate. Especially if it is just about them…becoming Led Zeppelin. One eye brow raise.
