Japanese bootleg label Empress Valley has released a sample of the soundboard recording of Led Zeppelin performing in Jacksonville, Florida on May 7, 1973 as part of its latest box set after LedZepNews published the audio last month.

Last week, LedZepNews reported on a rumour that the bootleg label planned to release part of the Jacksonville soundboard tape in an upcoming package.

Now, it seems Empress Valley does not have access to the full soundboard tape. Instead, the bootleggers appear to have downloaded the audio of fragments of the tape that LedZepNews published on YouTube last month.

The bootleg label’s latest box set, titled “The Wizard”, collects recordings from Led Zeppelin performing in 1973. A bonus CD is included in the box set that contains fragments of “Misty Mountain Hop”, “The Song Remains The Same” and “Heartbreaker” from the Jacksonville performance.

When LedZepNews reported last month on the tape’s emergence at auction and our failed attempt to buy it, we also published an audio sample from the tape that contains fragments of the same three songs.

If Empress Valley doesn’t have access to the Jacksonville tape, then the identity of the tape’s current owner remains unclear. Anyone with information on the tape can contact ledzepnews@gmail.com.

The inclusion of the Jacksonville sample in The Wizard isn’t the first time that Empress Valley has released material that was originally published by LedZepNews.

In 2024, the bootleg label published a booklet containing 142 photographs of Led Zeppelin performing in Tokyo in 1972 after we published scans of slides owned by Led Zeppelin collector Charley Cioffero earlier that year.
