Sony Pictures is publicly promoting “Becoming Led Zeppelin” for three Oscars categories, according to social media posts published by its Sony Pictures Classics division on December 8.
“Becoming Led Zeppelin” is seeking Oscars nominations in the categories of best documentary feature, best film editing and best sound, the posts suggest.
Sony Pictures’ posts were published on the day that preliminary voting began for the upcoming 98th Oscar awards. Preliminary voting will end on December 12.
On Instagram, the posts were also shared by Rhino Records, the catalogue division of Led Zeppelin’s record label Warner Music Group.
The decision by Rhino Records to share the posts suggests that Led Zeppelin may be more keen to promote “Becoming Led Zeppelin” following months of relative silence about the film and its release.
Last month, LedZepNews reported that the Academy Awards confirmed that “Becoming Led Zeppelin” is eligible to be nominated for awards.
A document published by the Academy confirmed the film is eligible for the documentary feature film category alongside films such as “Billy Idol Should Be Dead”, “Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus” and “It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley”.
The shortlist of 15 documentary films will be announced on December 16. Oscar nominees will be announced on January 22 and winners will be announced on March 15.
