Robert Plant removed posts about Woody Guthrie from his official Facebook, Instagram and Threads pages after the image caused political debates.
On March 17, Plant posted a photograph of a mural of Guthrie on the side of the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Plant and his band Saving Grace are currently touring the US and performed in Tulsa on March 16.
“Woody … is this what you meant??” Plant wrote as a caption on an image of the mural, which features the text “This land is your land” and shows Guthrie’s guitar with its typical label reading “This Machine Kills Fascists”.

Plant’s decision to post a photograph of the mural caused political debate in the comments of the posts. Some readers interpreted Plant’s post as criticism of the US government.
“Please, God, don’t tell me that Robert Plant is woke on immigration,” a comment on the Facebook post from one follower read.
On March 18, the posts were removed from Plant’s official pages on Facebook, Instagram and Threads.
Plant previously publicly supported Bruce Springsteen after he delivered a series of speeches opposing Donald Trump.
While introducing the song “Friends” during a performance with Saving Grace in Tampere, Finland on May 18, Plant said: “Right now in England, which is where we come from – not quite the land of the ice and snow, Bruce Springsteen is touring right now in the UK and he’s putting out some really serious stuff. So tune in to him. And let’s all hope that we can be…” The band then began performing “Friends”.
Plant again backed Springsteen in an interview published in Mojo Magazine’s October 2025 issue.
“There are people I know that say I should say what I think, but there’s so many strands to it,” Plant said. “It’s a slow death of everything we ever loved. From an American viewpoint, I could only add my support to Bruce Springsteen because he actually knows it, he lives in it.”

I was one of those who commented. I loved his post. RP has before sang political songs. freedom Fries (2005) & Coming To America (1988).
So RP don’t back down, don’t remove posts. Be on the Right side of History.
I loved the fact you spoke your mind and heart to support democracy- and not an orange tinted narcissist! And I have always admired Woody!

Woody would be writing songs about America’s failure to progress. Go listen to his song “Deportees”.
Jesse Welles has come up against this crap. This isn’t a game. Caving to this BS is what got us into this mess.
History isn’t Woke
I also posted in the original fb comments section. This mural has stood proudly for years in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma on the side of the Woody Guthrie Center (next to the Bob Dylan Archives, btw). Most of the comments were supportive, but a few people took offense (which begs the question, “when did the fascist coalition become relevant?”). Growing up in the USA, we learned and sang “This Land is Your Land” and other Woody Guthrie songs in elementary school. TLIYL is generally beloved by everyone here. I was happy to see the mural posted on RP’s page (after a FANTASTIC show in Tulsa, I might add), though I suppose I can understand why he might want to take it down. Everything here is politicized at the moment, and it’s OUR problem, not his.
