A new organ concerto written by John Paul Jones will be premiered at the Helsinki Festival in August 2027, LedZepNews has learned.

French organist Olivier Latry will perform the new work by Jones, rather than Jones himself performing.

The concerto will be the first new piece of music by Jones to be heard since the premiere of his song cycle “Her Kind” which took place in London on January 8.

The upcoming performance was revealed on the website of HarrisonParrott, a classical music agency which represents Latry.

“In August 2027 he will premiere former Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones’ new organ concerto with the Helsinki Philharmonic at the Helsinki Festival,” the website’s page about Latry read. “The piece is co-commissioned by the Helsinki Festival and Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France.”

Latry previously performed “The Call”, an original composition by Jones written for organ and cello, in a performance in Helsinki, Finland on November 10, 2025 along with cellist Anssi Karttunen.

Jones discussed his hope to premiere work at the Helsinki Festival next year in an interview with The Times published in January.

“The problem for me now is getting it performed,” he told the newspaper about his unstaged opera “The Ghost Sonata”.

“We had three opera houses lined up, then one dropped out so they all did,” Jones added. But I’ve done some demo tracks of it with Allan Clayton, who wants to sing the lead, and I think we might get a concert performance at the Helsinki Festival.”

LedZepNews understands that the upcoming August 2027 organ concerto is a separate work to “The Ghost Sonata”.

Jones also told The Times about the new organ concerto he wrote for Latry. He described it as having “big chords, loud and probably a lot of Messiaen and Fauré”.
