Led Zeppelin is reportedly planning ‘several events’ in October – but the band won’t play together

Led Zeppelin is reportedly planning “several events” in October, one of which would see guest musicians playing the band’s music with the possibility of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones joining separately on some songs.

The Sun reported on Friday that the surviving members of Led Zeppelin are in talks regarding multiple events in October to mark the band’s fiftieth anniversary.

The biggest news was that Led Zeppelin is planning a one-off concert where musicians perform the work of Led Zeppelin. The Sun reported that the surviving band members may sit in on certain tracks — but not together.

It’s likely that hosting a one-off evening with famous friends would please both Robert Plant, who has been reluctant to engage in Led Zeppelin activity, and Jimmy Page, who hasn’t played guitar on stage since 2015.

In fact, the last time Page played guitar on stage was on November 19, 2015 when he joined Paul Rodgers, Duff McKagan and others at the Founders Award in Seattle. Clearly, Page feels comfortable performing when he’s not always the centre of attention.

Other events mentioned in the report include promotional events for Led Zeppelin’s photography book, which is also scheduled for October. The three surviving band members all posed with a manuscript of the book at a recent band meeting, so Plant and Jones will likely join Page in promoting that release.

The Sun is a British tabloid newspaper, but the author of the story, Dan Wootton, is well-connected in the British entertainment industry. If Led Zeppelin is planning a concert with guest musicians, then it’s likely that people in the entertainment industry are starting to learn more about it.

It’s unclear if the planned concert is related to Led Zeppelin’s applications to trademark the phrase “The Led Zeppelin Experience” around the world. LedZepNews reported in April that the band has filed trademark applications in Europe and the US.

And Jason Bonham, son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, was asked to change the name of his band by Led Zeppelin because the band has plans to use the phrase “The Led Zeppelin Experience.” Bonham’s band was previously called “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience,” but he changed its name to “Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening” last year following a request from Led Zeppelin.

Why bother! They might as well just invite Jason Bonham’s band and play with them.

Pathetic if they can’t even do one song together…..How many gigs has Plant played so this year, must be over 40. But it’s almost 3 years since Jimmy graced the stage (Seattle) and that was just for one song.JPJ still doing his bit but Jimmy developed an aversion to playing a long time ago. Sad but true.

  8. I do not understand the need for secrecy concerning their ability to play together. If it’s a health issue on the part of one or more members, let the fans know. Why pretend that the band still exists at all – if even a remote possibility.

  9. Which dude is led zeppelin
