John Bonham’s hometown of Redditch has not yet managed to reschedule a tribute event and the launch of an immersive animation of the drummer, four months after it was originally due to take place.

Redditch Borough Council announced in March that an event celebrating the life of Bonham in his hometown would take place on March 14.

The event would have launched a new immersive animation of Bonham that was created using motion capture to film a drummer performing some of Bonham’s most iconic performances.

However, the event was postponed two days before it was meant to take place. On March 12, the council said: “We plan to reschedule it sooner rather than later and so that the current works taking place in the town centre will be completed.”

Now, a council spokesperson has confirmed to LedZepNews that talks are ongoing about rescheduling the tribute.

“Officers are currently engaging with key stakeholders in order to agree when this exciting event can take place,” a spokesperson for Redditch Borough Council told LedZepNews in response to an inquiry regarding the status of the event.

The immersive animation of Bonham’s performance, which will only be available to people who physically visit the statue of Bonham in his hometown, has not yet launched despite the council previously scheduling its launch for March 14 as part of the event. A web page for the animation still reads “check back soon”.

The animation has not yet been publicly revealed, but LedZepNews reported in March that arts organisation BOM published a series of behind the scenes photographs from the motion capture for the animation, one of which included a look at the animation incorporating the statue of Bonham in Redditch.
