Robert Plant was interviewed on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on November 4, talking about his new album Saving Grace.

Colbert asked Plant if his Led Zeppelin band members picked up on his references to the work of J. R. R. Tolkien which he included in the band’s lyrics.

“No, it didn’t exist at the time. Tolkien, he’d had his moment, I guess. ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings’ had subsided,” Plant replied.
