Previously unheard recordings of Jimmy Page performing with The Yardbirds have surfaced online

The Yardbirds 1967

Previously unheard live recordings of Jimmy Page performing with The Yardbirds in 1967 and 1968 have emerged online for the first time.

Recordings of The Yardbirds performing with Page in San Francisco on July 26, 1967 and in Concord on May 29, 1968 were posted on private online forums and mailing lists last week.

The recordings, which have never before been circulated, provide a previously unheard glimpse of Page’s musical activity in the years preceding the formation of Led Zeppelin.

The person who shared the recordings wrote online: “Imagine that: I just recently received out of the blue via filesharing two Page-era Yardbirds shows that seemingly virtually NOBODY has had so far!”

The source of the recordings has apparently asked to remain anonymous.

The exact date of the 1967 show is unclear. Singer Keith Relf says in the recording that the band would play at the same venue the next evening.

That suggests the recordings is the middle show of a three-night run at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco which took place on July 25-27.

A review of the second set played on the first night, July 25, mentions eight songs being played, whereas the recording which recently emerged only has seven songs in the second set.
