‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ will be released ‘soon’

Becoming Led Zeppelin

“Becoming Led Zeppelin”, the feature-length documentary about the origins of Led Zeppelin that includes new interviews with the band’s three surviving members, is “coming soon” according to its US distributor.

Sony Pictures Classics updated its Instagram and Threads account bios on September 25 to add “Becoming Led Zeppelin” under the heading “coming soon”, suggesting the film may be released before the end of 2024.

Other films listed as “coming soon” by the company include “The Outrun” which is due to be released in the US on October 4, “The Room Next Door” which is due to be released in the US on December 20 and “I’m Still Here” which doesn’t yet have a confirmed US release date.

This hint about the release of “Becoming Led Zeppelin” comes after the film was given a PG-13 rating in the US in August, clearing the way for it to be screened in cinemas. At the time, the film was retitled “Introducing Led Zeppelin” but it appears Sony Pictures Classics has restored the film’s original title.

Jason Bonham, the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, previously claimed in an interview with Eddie Trunk in August that the film would be screened in September.

It was announced in May that the film had been sold to the distributor Sony Pictures Classics for a US release. And in June further distribution deals were announced for other markets. No UK distributor has been announced so far.

Work began on the film in 2018, LedZepNews has previously reported, with a public announcement of the then-untitled project made on May 9, 2019.

“Becoming Led Zeppelin” had its premiere on September 4, 2021 in Venice but the film was then re-edited to add further footage.

  11. So looking forward to seeing this film in the theater.
    Get the popcorn 🍿

  12. That’s nice, but where is the live cd’s that were supposed to be released? James …. we’re only getting older. If Mr Jones and Mr Plant don’t want to play ball, just do it. Like I said, we’re only getting older! It’s horrible thought, but , if your not around they will never get released! You owe it to us, the Zeppelin generation. The younger generation will catch up soon enough, they always have!

    • Plant put a stop to the live releases. He felt that it would distract from his solo career. Page cannot legally release anything without all members in agreement. Page clearly would love to release them, but until Plant changes his mind they will never see official releases. It’s too bad that Plant is so anti-Zep it seems. They would be the perfect band to do what Neil Young does with his Archives app. Release everything digitally on there with a monthly/annual subscription, and physical copies of the best stuff. Until Zep gets their ducks and a row and works out their issues, we wont get any releases of merit. Look at the 50th anniversary, what an embarrassment that was. Hard to believe that was the celebration put together for a band of that stature and impact.

  13. This is a hyped – up rehash of the band. But definitely a money grab. to quote Plant he once stated “There is nothing new under the sun”. Younger or new fans will go bonkers over it But we old timers (dinosaur fans) will hardly be phased. Trust me🥲
