A series of online adverts launched by Led Zeppelin use a clip from the 2007 animated film “Shrek the Third” and a karaoke cover of “Whole Lotta Love” to promote the band’s music.
Starting on August 11, the band began running adverts on Instagram that use a clip from “Shrek the Third” along with audio of Led Zeppelin’s song “Immigrant Song”.
Led Zeppelin agreed to license the song for use in the film when it was released. The clip shows a portion of the film in which Snow White attacks Steve and Ed, a pair of evil trees.
“Aus dem Land von Eis und Schnee kommt eines der wuchtigsten Intros der Rockgeschichte: Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’,” the video’s German caption reads, which translates into English as “From the land of ice and snow comes one of the most powerful intros in rock history: Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song'”.
Warner Music Group paid for the Instagram advert to reach more than 30,000 people in Germany and Austria, Facebook’s Ad Library shows.

Another advert also launched on August 11 welcomes “rock gods” who see the post to “the Led Zeppelin zone”. Tha advert appears to only be served to French users, Facebook’s Ad Library shows.
The video’s soundtrack is a combination of clips of “Immigrant Song”, “Stairway to Heaven” and “Whole Lotta Love”.
However, instead of Led Zeppelin’s original studio version of “Whole Lotta Love”, the advert instead uses a karaoke cover version of the song, seemingly by mistake.
LedZepNews identified the cover as being the 2007 karaoke version of “Whole Lotta Love” released by The Hit Crew, the name of a group used to release singalong versions of famous songs for karaoke albums.
Led Zeppelin’s series of new online adverts comes after LedZepNews reported last week that Warner Music Group is currently spending money placing online adverts with Facebook trying to promote new releases coming from both Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant in September.
Starting on August 5, Led Zeppelin began paying for six new adverts across Facebook and Instagram promoting the upcoming September 12 release of Live EP. An earlier advert for the EP started running on August 1.
Meanwhile, Plant’s record label has been spending money since July 18 promoting his upcoming album Saving Grace which will be released on September 26.
