A song featuring John Paul Jones will no longer be released on an upcoming charity album that pays tribute to Syd Barrett.
A live recording of Jones performing the Barrett song “Gigolo Aunt” with Robyn Hitchcock on May 10, 2007 was due to be released on the album Clowns and Jugglers (The Songs of Syd Barrett) on October 9.
However, the track has now been cut from the upcoming album because of quality issues. A different recording of the same song by Hitchcok, without Jones included, will replace it.
“The Robyn Hitchcock version of ‘Gigolo Aunt’ featuring John Paul Jones recorded at the Barbican has been changed for a different version of the same track, which does not feature John Paul Jones,” a spokesperson for record label Gonzo told LedZepNews.
“This is due to concerns about the sound quality not being of a high enough quality. Gonzo wishes to apologise for any inconvenience caused,” they continued.
This reminds me of the compilation “Good Rockin’ Tonight: The Legacy of Sun Records.” An early announcement for the album said it would include a cover of Jimmy DeBerry and Walter Horton’s “Easy,” which JPJ had recorded in 2000 with Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana, both early bandmates of Elvis Presley’s. That track was never released, and JPJ told me in 2001 he had “not a clue” why, “and it was good, too!” Maybe that’s something you can find out, James!
Sounds okay to me. I can hear JPJ easily. There’ll be a real reason (business). Sonic quality is not it.
Money is the issue, maybe?
Not the first track to have been pulled from this album either. Something fishy going on?

Sound issues are not and have not been a problem with recordings for a good number of years now. They can fix almost anything to put into high definition sound.
