No, Jimmy Page isn’t planning to tour again soon

(YouTube/ITV News)

A recent viral blog post claimed that Jimmy Page is planning to tour again soon, but it’s a misleading post based on a year-old interview.

You might have seen this post from the website Classic Rock History in which the author Brian Kachejian writes that Page “stated recently in a GQ Magazine article that he is itching to get back on stage and start performing once again.”

The post, which is headlined, “Jimmy Page Plans To Tour Again Soon,” has been widely shared on Facebook where it has been liked more than 5,500 times and has attracted more than 350 comments.

But the truth is that Page isn’t about to tour. Kachejian’s post doesn’t include any quotes from Page nor does it refer to a specific GQ interview, but it appears to be based on some comments Page made a year ago for an interview that appeared in the December 2020 issue of GQ. That article is available to read online in full.

This appears to be the quote from Page that Kachejian based his post on:

When we first went into lockdown I thought,’Right, now’s the time to start thinking about coming back at some point and being able to perform.’ But it’s such a very sad and desperate time and what this virus has done internationally to families, to the arts and everything we love and hold dear and the whole concert situation, it does worry me. Playing live is so important for young musicians. When we were young, we all had these little gigs, hoping to play somewhere bigger and it’s such an important part of that communion of musicians playing together. For me it’s always been the most important thing. I will never be one of those people who’ll record alone and send someone a file. I never went into music in the first place to do that, it was for playing together and this is what it means. We need to play with people, we need gigs and we need community. Because without that, music means nothing.

Nowhere in the interview does Page say he’s planning to tour, let alone any time “soon”.

    • Page cant cut it any more.
He has a reputation to protect & I cant see him having the balls to play live. He has promised so many times to do something, i assume he is scratching his balls.Nothing would make me happier than to see him live or listen to some new music but alas I think its over.

  11. Sure it would be great to keep seeing Led Zep – even once more – as I do the Stones time after time – which I enjoy and appreciate. Nevertheless, these fine musicians have their own lives too, and have already given us much entertainment and good times – that I will always cherish and never forget. If they do tour… so much the better though! :)~
