John Paul Jones has launched a sale of equipment from his recording studio, a rare chance for fans to buy musical items owned by a member of Led Zeppelin.

British business Soundgas launched an online sale and auction of items used by Jones in his recording studio in December, with the sale due to end on January 18.

“John is still very active musically – writing, recording and performing – but no longer requires so much studio equipment – most of which he has owned from new,” the website explained.

“He feels it should be in the hands of people who will put it to good use, so it is offered here without formal provenance, with the intention that it continues to be used as intended. Please note that the items listed do not have any Led Zeppelin connection and are from John’s private studio,” it added.

Items being sold in the sale include a Guild Thunderbass amp that was “used with Them Crooked Vultures and left at Dave Grohl’s house. Apparently someone borrowed it and when it was returned to JPJ the speakers were blown.”

Other items for sale include a Roland PAD-80 Percussion Controller with an estimate of between £100 and £150 and a 1980s-era Simmons SDS-V drum synthesiser.
