Gibson has begun selling the second replica guitar from its new partnership with Jimmy Page. The guitar maker is selling 150 replicas of the 1964 Gibson SJ-200 acoustic guitar that Page played on Led Zeppelin’s debut album and in his April 23, 1970 appearance on “The Julie Felix Show”.
Gibson has produced 50 Collector’s Edition replicas of the guitar, all of which were signed on the rear of the headstock and played by Page in Nashville earlier this year. This version sells for $19,999 in the US and £17,499 in the UK.
Gibson is promoting the guitar with this video that includes something surprising: an instrumental version of “Babe I’m Gonna Leave You”. It seems the song has been remixed to remove Robert Plant’s vocals.
Another version of the guitar is limited to 100 copies. These are signed on the sound hole label, not the headstock, by Page and weren’t played by him. They’re being sold for $12,999 in the US and £11,299 in the UK.
The above video gives a look at the wooden plaque that comes with the guitar. It dates Page’s appearance on “The Julie Felix Show” as April 26, 1970 which was the date of the show’s broadcast. Page recorded the appearance on April 23, 1970.
This second replica from the partnership between Page and Gibson was announced in the final issue of Guitar Player magazine on October 15. Following that announcement, we published a history of the guitar.
Curiously, LedZepNews website commenter “Guitarthingy” knew almost the guitar’s exact asking price on October 18 before it was officially announced.
Page borrowed the guitar he played on Led Zeppelin’s debut album from Mickie Most. The original guitar was stolen and Page was later given another model of it for his seventieth birthday.
that guitar should be a success any guitar connected with page should stir some interest great short video of page promoting it maybe page should record a acoustic album with it NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING
