An expanded box set of Jimmy Page’s album with The Black Crowes is on the way

An expanded box set version of Jimmy Page’s 2000 live album with The Black Crowes, Live at the Greek, is on the way in 2025.

That’s according to The Black Crowes members Chris and Rich Robinson who mentioned that work on the box set is underway during an interview on The Howard Stern Show on March 27.

The expanded box set will include songs originally written by The Black Crowes that were performed with Page during the shows recorded for the album but left off the release due to a contractual dispute.

“We’re going to, I think, do a box set next year. It will be the 25th anniversary of that record. That record has been released a couple of times but without any of the Black Crowes songs that we did with him, so it’s very exciting,” Chris Robinson said on the show.

The original album features songs recorded during a pair of shows that took place on October 18 and October 19, 1999 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

During the October 18, 1999 show, the band performed The Black Crowes songs “No Speak No Slave”, “Hard To Handle” and “Remedy”. And on the second night, they performed “No Speak No Slave”, “Wiser Time” and “Remedy”. None of those songs have been officially released.

Extra tracks not included on the original release have emerged over time. The Japanese version of the album included the Led Zeppelin songs “Misty Mountain Hop” and “In The Light” that were recorded at Jones Beach on July 10, 2000.

Those songs were then released on a three-track 10″ vinyl EP titled Live at Jones Beach on April 22, 2017 for Record Store Day that was limited to 3,000 copies along with “Bring It On Home”, also from the July 10, 2000 show. However, once copies of this release arrived it was found that the EP was actually limited to 4,000 copies, not 3,000.

During the Jones Beach show, the band also played the Led Zeppelin song “Hots On For Nowhere” as well as a cover of “I Can’t Be Satisfied” by Muddy Waters and the Black Crowes songs “No Speak No Slave”, “Horsehead”, “Remedy” and “She Talks To Angels.” None of those songs have been officially released.

A leftfield choice for possible inclusion in the box set could be a recording of the last time Page played with The Black Crowes. He joined the band on stage for “Shake Your Money Maker” in London on July 13, 2011:

For Record Store Day on April 19, 2014, the album was released on red, clear and blue vinyl and limited to 2,000 copies.

Nice! I already have pretty much all of the Page/Crowes shows anyway, so I won’t have to give these two any more of my money (and you know they’ll overprice it, just look at the “box sets” of their first two albums.) That said, this will be worth it for those who didn’t get to see the concerts themselves. The Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes shows were amazing, and Jimmy was clearly having fun!
